Loreto
Shoehorned between the desert peaks of the Sierra de la Giganta and
the shores of the deep-blue-gulf, Loreto represents quintessential
Baja. This friendly town of 13,000 has a dramatic setting, an
abundance of outdoor recreation, and an alluring, slightly worn-at
the-edges feel. It also boasts a historical tradition unrivaled in
Baja, being the oldest permanent settlement in the Californias,
dating to 1697 when Spanish padres founded Mision Nuestra Senora de
Loreto. You can enjoy scenic grandeur along the malecon, a lovely
cobbled promenade fronting the gulf. A bounty of recreation beckons
offshore amid the huge Loreto Bay National Marine Park, a preserve
covering nearly 800 square miles of sea and five major islands.
Highway 1, completed in 1973, brings a steady flow of travelers by
land during winter months, and many visitors and anglers fly in
during the spring and summer fishing season. Loreto has an
international airport and is serviced daily by Aero California from
Los Angeles. Alaska Airlines now offers service on Thursday and
Sunday. Loreto’s international airport receives direct flights from
Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Diego.
Punta Nopolo
Punta Nopolo is located just 3 miles south of the Loreto
international airport. Nopolo is an upscale area with 2 major hotels
and eco-sensitive resort villages along the coast, complete with a
tennis center and the only golf course between Ensenada and Cabo.

the nearby major hotel and Nopolo area. In Loreto, the informal
headquarters for taxis is just south of the Plaza Civica on Calle
Madero. A car load to/from Nopolo to Loreto is about $13. Once in
the town of Loreto, the mission, Plaza Civica, shopping district,

What should I pack?
Definitely a bathing suit is a must, sunscreen, hats, shorts,
sandals and general Resort clothing. Don't forget your golf and
tennis shoes! For the evenings, bring a light sweater if you are
visiting us during the winter months. Chances are you will not wear
it.
Safety
The population of
Loreto is very friendly and hospitable. There is little if any crime
and the town is very safe. Loreto is almost at full employment and
the people enjoy meeting visitors from other countries.
